Our engineers won’t keep you in the dark. It takes only 20 milliseconds for them to switch to the backup power supply in the event of a power cut.
The Engineering and Asset Management team are responsible for the successful day-to-day operation and performance of Heathrow’s £14bn asset base. We support Heathrow’s four terminals as well as the inner and outer infrastructure areas. We deliver a diverse range of services across 500,000 assets – these range from the provision of world-class cleanliness in our terminals to specialist airfield control systems.
With enough cabled services to wrap around the world more than four times, our team collaborate with specialist Team Heathrow partners to ensure we maintain our focus on delivering a safe and high-performing airport operations service through the provision of world-class infrastructure and systems on a very large and complex scale. At Heathrow, our Engineering function work around the clock to ensure the airport is operating 24/7.
We look for a diverse range of skills in our Engineers and Technicians due to the complexity of maintaining an airport like Heathrow – the types of engineering span mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental. Just a few of the critical services that we operate and maintain include the lighting and power to our runways, all CCTV across the airport, flight information screens within our terminals, our security equipment, all heating and cooling systems and our Track Transit Train (TTS) – a driverless train network that transports our passengers between Terminal 5 and its satellite terminals.
Our Engineers and Technicians are all technically qualified within their areas of specialism but in addition to this, we look for people who have a high level of attention to detail, work in collaboration with their fellow colleagues to support and share knowledge, challenge the status quo possessing a continuous-improvement mindset, and are customer service focused in their approach through the provision of excellent communication skills with stakeholders.
As well as our highly skilled Engineers and Technicians, we also recruit for a range of roles within the engineering function that seek many transferable skills. These include project management for critical engineering projects and infrastructure upgrades across the Heathrow campus, negotiation and procurement experience for management of the contractual and commercial aspects of our assets. We also look for customer service expertise for roles within our Engineering Help Centre and Heathrow Rail; hiring for vacancies such as Duty Station Managers, Station Team Leader and Customer Hosts.
Whatever your career ambitions or skills, our Engineering function has something to offer for everyone.
